ICC T20 World Cup Most Wicket Taker Records

As soon as the ICC T20 World Cup 2020 fixtures were announced, people knew that records will be broken and records will be made. Even though T20 is the game for batsmen, bowlers too have a huge scope to set some noteworthy records. Here are some records by bowlers till date in the ICC T20 World Cup.

Beginning with the record for the most wickets taken in the ICC T20 World Cup, Shahid Afridi holds the badge. With an economy of 6.71, Afridi managed to grab 39 wickets so far in the tournament, making him the highest wicket taker. On the other hand, Ajantha Mendis holds the record for best bowling figures in an innings. He grabbed 6 wickets against Zimbabwe in 2012. He was able to dismiss 6 batsmen in 4 overs with two maiden overs and an economy of 2.0 with 8 runs to offer.

West Indies bowler Samuel Badree holds the record of best average in the ICC T20 World Cup. Having an average of 13.58, the bowler achieved this in 15 matches with 59 overs bowled in total. He also garbed 24 wickets so far with an economy of 5.52.

Another West Indies bowler, Sunil Narine, holds the record of best economy rate in the ICC T20 World Cup. Having played 12 matches in total, Narine has an average of 15.40 and an economy rate of 5.17. Nuwan Kulasekara holds the record of best economy rate in an inning with an economy rate of 0.00 vs Netherland in 2014.

Saeed Ajmal from Pakistan holds the record of most 4 wickets in an inning. He was able to achieve this feat three times. It took him 23 matches and 89.2 overs with 36 wickets and an economy rate of 6.79 to get here. The record of most 5 wickets in an inning is held by Mustafizur Rahman. He was able to achieve this feat once in his career. It took him 3 matches and 12 overs with 9 wickets and an economy rate of 7.16 to get here.

Ajantha Mendis also holds the record for most wickets taken in a tournament. He was able to achieve this in 6 matches. It took him 24 overs and 147 runs in return with 15 wickets and an economy rate of 6.12 to make this record.

Seeing the big picture here, the records for bowlers majorly seems to be dominated by Sri Lankan bowlers. Even though they have records in the bowling section, it is not a shock to see the reaming teams making the record in the batting section.

Keeping this mind, one thing is clear from the above stats that T20 is not a game only for batsmen. Bowlers too can make their name here and the above figures are a proof of the same. And in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2020, odds are high that these records will be broken and new records will be made. And it will be an absolute pleasure to witness this.
